Six Reasons To Kill - Another Horizon
It was in 2005 when I got my first encounter with Germany’s Six Reasons To Kill. Back then they had an obvious metalcore vibe in their music but since I’m “one of those kids who like metalcore”, I definitely liked their album. Now, three years later, the band is back with an album that has another approach. And once again I got interested. Let’s head over to Another Horizon. It doesn’t take a genius mind to soon discover that 6R2K is on the right way with this new album. It’s heavy, it grooves and it’s aggressive in a very pleasant way. Think metalcore with much needed death metal drum attacks and thrashy guitar parts. At the same time there’s enough space for crushing breakdowns and this is all accompanied by a vocalist that might not stand out from the masses but has a very nice throat nonetheless. You know what? Maybe he does stand out a bit, ‘cause he’s not only capable of screaming mindlessly, he also knows how the bring up some other elements.
Another thing that makes this album interesting to listen to is the fact that in some songs small experiments are shown. A power metal scream in ‘On This Battlefield’, a weird (positively meant), but good tempo change in ‘Ammunition’ and some clean vocal passages that at first don’t seem to fit in too well, but when you listen closer it’s actually the thing that makes the songs complete.
It may not be the most original album but fans of Caliban and early-Heaven Shall Burn may very well like this album as well. This disc will get some more spins in my player every now and then. A good step forward for Six Reasons To Kill!
